Amen all the way down the line. Even though a JW may admit some of these are true, like service reports and beards, I think anything can be reasoned away as long as they're convinced that the central tenants that make JWs unique are true. If those are true, then the 'little' things aren't too important. However, speaking for myself, once I realized that these unique JW teachings I was convinced were in the Bible actually weren't, like Christians living forever on Earth, military service being wrong, blood ban, door to door preaching, last days, etc. Then the nagging doubts about all the little things made sense and there was no need to rationalize. It was basically all false.

What Is The Most Ridiculous Thing You Have Heard From A Witness?
by minimus ini remember an elder questioning a woman who had admitted to giving and receiving oral sex from her unbelieving mate.
he asked her the most intimate questions which clearly flustered her.
interestingly, she “confessed “ to the elders because her conscience bothered her.

In the New System after we've filled the Earth, we might go on to colonize other planets
That was actually official teaching, from Studies in the Scriptures.

JW's Blow Their Own Trumpet Each Month
by The Fall Guy inw06 12/1 p. 27 par.
11 what it means to love our neighbor - “jesus commissioned his followers to preach and to teach and to “make disciples of people of all the nations.” by our participation in this work, we show love for......... neighbor.”.
by recording the number of hours of “love” shown to neighbours each month in their monthly report slip, aren't jw's in reality doing what christ said not to do?.

Movie-goers can be fickle (great movies that should've enjoyed huge box-office success)
by LoveUniHateExams injust thought i'd start a thread about this topic.. john carpenter's the thing (1982) was a great film, one of his best imo.
for me, it's right up there with alien (1979) as one of the greatest sci-fi horror films ever made.
and yet one film made anything between $100 - 200 million at the box office whereas the other made only $19 million.

Hi joe134cd, thanks for sharing your spiritual journey. As a Christian, my personal opinion is that when the Bible says to avoid "sects" and other similar thoughts, this applies to all denominations. Any subdivision of Christianity is in effect a sect, and as such there can be no true religion in the sense of any one denomination that 'has it'. What makes Christians different than ancient Israel is that now God deals with individuals and their personal faith. Not that it's wrong to fellowship with other Christians, even in church settings, but I don't think it should take precedence, and I'd never want to get dogmatic/set in my ways or 'go beyond the things written'. Do your best to maintain you personal autonomy, and never give your faith away to humans.
